I met Billy through his modeling agency (Wilhelmina) a couple of weeks ago, and he asked me to do some headshots for him.  Billy’s old headshots (which I loved) were done by one of my favorite headshot photographers here in LA, so I challenged myself to see if I could outdo them.  A main reason why I loved his old headshots so much was because they were directionally lit and had such a dramatic film still feel, so I wanted to keep that all the same.  The following is what I came up with, and we’re both pretty happy with the outcome.  Comparing these shots with some of the first headshots I did about a year ago, I think I’ve come a long way with lighting.

I first worked with Drew through his modeling agency (Wilhelmina) about two years ago.  Since then, he’s become a friend of mine.  Aside from being ridiculously photogenic, Drew’s a solid guy with a persistent work ethic/drive and a seeking heart for God.  I did headshots for Drew last year, and his agent wanted updated commercial shots.  This was a new location for me to tryout, but it worked out great.  We were flanked on one side by a hill which blocked the sunlight, creating this natural soft glowing light.  The background was far away enough that I was able to throw everything out of focus.  I love how clean and fresh these headshots turned out, and I’m sure his agent will as well.  And just look at that marketable face!  It’s no wonder Drew’s been on demand for big names like Target, Ross, etc.
